Welcome for new accessibility campaign

We are pleased to see the launch of a new social media campaign to help tourism businesses in England improve their accessibility.

The new campaign, produced by England’s Inclusive Tourism Action Group and comprising of leading accessible tourism stakeholders including VisitEngland, shares ‘top tips’ on how businesses can better cater for visitors with access requirements. According to VisitEngland, the inclusive tourism market in England is worth over £12 billion a year.

The tips provide advice to tourism businesses on improving their accessibility and raising awareness of the inclusive tourism market. Tips include appointing an Accessibility Champion and asking all customers if they require evacuation assistance in an emergency.

Launched to coincide with UNTWO’s World Tourism Day, which this year had the theme ‘Tourism for All’, #inclusivetips will be tweeted at 1pm every Wednesday on Twitter and Linkedin.

“It is good to see this new campaign highlighting the key steps tourist businesses can take to better accommodate people with a wide range of access requirements,” says Janet Redler, Chief Executive of Janet Redler Travel & Tourism. “While many businesses have already made improvements to access for disabled people, there is often more that can be done to make the tourist experience as easy and enjoyable as possible.”

VisitEngland research shows that visitors who make up the accessible tourism market are more likely to take longer trips and are anecdotally very loyal.
