Meet our team: Daniel Jasper

In a new series of blogs, we are pleased to introduce you to our wonderful team. In this first interview, we’d like you to say hello to Daniel, who works on the Operations side of our business – you will meet him once your clients’ dream vacation has been confirmed!

Daniel’s role involves booking services for our clients’ tours, such as visits, drivers and guides, as well as making final arrangements with hotels. He is also likely to be the one who sends out your clients’ travel documents, a few weeks before their trip begins.

Daniel studied travel and tourism at university before joining the Janet Redler team.

As he explains: “I have always enjoyed travelling, within the UK or abroad, and at one point I wanted to be an airline pilot! I love experiencing new cultures, learning more about the history of places close to home and far away, and seeing environments I wouldn't normally see. I also like to collect flags from every country I visit!”

When asked about his favourite places, Daniel highlights three locations he thinks everyone should visit.

Lincoln in the east of England is one of my favourite places. The city rises above the low-lying landscape all around, so it’s impressive to see it from miles away. The main sites to visit are at the top of the hill and, while you can park at the top, if you are comfortable with steep walks, the walk up the aptly named Steep Hill is really fun to do, although it certainly hurts your legs!

“The cathedral and castle at the top are full of history and, in fact, the cathedral is one of the largest in the country. The castle is home to the only example of a Victorian Prison Chapel.

“I fell in love with the regions of Fife and Angus when I was there last year and I would recommend a visit for a full experience of Scotland, a bit further from the normal tourist trails. Scotland is crammed with breathtaking scenery and, away from the well-known areas of the Lochs, Glencoe and the Highlands, there are many untouched areas to explore.

“Whether you'd like to have an alcohol tasting, a full farm experience, or just seeing some impressive mountains around the Cairngorms, these regions have a lot to offer. You can also visit the 'Home of Golf' at St. Andrews.

Shropshire in England is our home county and, along with neighbouring areas, has so much history to discover, although not many people know just how much the region offers. From the Roman ruins of Wroxeter showing early life in the UK, to Ironbridge, birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, it is a fantastic place to visit. Shrewsbury is a beautiful county town with many Tudor buildings and lovely walks along the River Severn.”

Daniel offers some good advice for travellers visiting the UK from overseas.

“Due to many buildings being centuries old, and also due to the UK typically having colder weather in the past, the likelihood of having air-conditioning is much smaller than many places in the United States, for example. This is worth keeping in mind if travelling during the summer as, while hotels will normally have fans, rooms may be warmer than you'd expect.

“Tipping also is not as big in Europe and the UK, although it is starting to be talked about more. We definitely still recommend that gratuities are given if you have enjoyed a service from any guide, server, or driver, as this is greatly appreciated.”

When he isn’t at work, Daniel says he enjoys swimming, which he has been doing since he was a child, and he likes to go to his local pool when he can.

Daniel adds: “My family are big fans of our local football (soccer) team Wrexham, which has become well-known over the past few years because of some famous owners! Away from sport, I am a big fan of the Eurovision Song Contest, something not so known outside of Europe, and so every May, I can be found watching this and if you get me talking about it, I won't stop!”

When it comes to working at Janet Redler Travel, Daniel says he loves the fact that every trip he works on is different: from the different places people visit, to the different ways people experience the same places.

“The work environment makes every day better too, as we all get along and it feels like we're all family here.”

Daniel finishes by explaining that the most rewarding part of his job is the feedback from clients. “Knowing that people have enjoyed the moments you have created is why we do this!”

If your clients would like to experience a tailor-made tour of the United Kingdom, Ireland or Europe, please do contact our friendly team today - and Daniel may soon be helping to deliver yet another dream vacation!
