Royal Mint wins 2022 Tripadvisor Travelers' Choice Award

The Royal Mint has been recognised by Tripadvisor as a 2022 Travelers’ Choice award winner for being in the ‘Top 10% of attractions worldwide’. The award celebrates businesses that have received great traveller reviews from visitors around the globe on Tripadvisor over the last 12 months. The Royal Mint stood out in a challenging year by consistently delivering positive experiences for all guests.

Situated in Llantrisant, between Cardiff, the capital of Wales, and second city Swansea, The Royal Mint is the largest and most technically advanced minting facility in the world. More than 3.3 billion coins and blanks are made every year for more than 30 countries.

The Royal Mint Experience is the only place where people can watch the United Kingdom’s coins being made. Visitors can go behind the scenes to follow the journey of a coin from a blank to a bank, experience the sights, sounds and smells of thousands of glistening new coins hot off the presses, and get the chance to strike their very own coin.

Kanika Soni, Chief Commercial Officer at Tripadvisor, said: “The Travelers’ Choice Awards recognise the best in tourism and hospitality. Ranking among the Travelers’ Choice winners is always tough – but never more so than this year as we emerge from the pandemic. Whether it's new user technology, implementing safety measures, or hiring outstanding staff, I’m impressed by the steps The Royal Mint Experience has taken to meet travelers’ new demands.”

Paul Brandwood, Business Development Manager for The Royal Mint Experience, added: “To be awarded this in what has been a very turbulent 12 months, means the world to us. Customers are at the heart of everything we do and to see we are getting this right is wonderful.”

Two of our team at Janet Redler Travel, Dawn and Neil, visited The Royal Mint Experience recently, as part of a ‘Coin, Coal and Cheers’ experience in South Wales. Commenting on their visit, they said: “It was fascinating to discover how coins are made and the background to coin production. Among the treasure trove of precious coins and rare artefacts is everything from an Alfred the Great penny dating back over 1,000 years, to medals from the London 2012 Olympics – and not to forget the iconic British Mini car covered in coins!”
