The tour also shines a spotlight on the rise of Arsenal Women, a team that has broken barriers and inspired generations.

According to Arsenal FC, this is more than a walk through the past – it’s a chance to share memories, connect with fellow fans and feel the pride that unites the Arsenal family. “Whether you’re a lifelong supporter or new to the club, the History Walking Tour is an unforgettable way to experience the spirit of Arsenal.”

An illustrious past

In late 1886, a group of workers from the Woolwich Arsenal Armament Factory decided to form a football team. They called themselves Dial Square after a workshop within the Arsenal, and on December 11, 1886, they romped to a 6-0 victory over Eastern Wanderers; the first game in their initial guise. Shortly afterwards the name ‘Royal Arsenal’ was adopted. (Source: www.arsenal.com.)

The appointment of Herbert Chapman as Manager in the summer of 1925 helped to shape Arsenal into the football club it is today. Chapman's first trophy came in 1930 when Arsenal won the FA Cup Final. This triumph started a decade in which Arsenal would be the dominant team in English football, winning their first top flight title in 1930/31, repeating the feat two years later.
