Eight days a week in Liverpool

What does the city of Liverpool mean to you?

  • The convoys crossing the North Atlantic in the 1940s?
  • The home of the great shipping lines?
  • The Liver bird and iconic waterfront buildings?
  • Gerry Marsden and “Ferry cross the Mersey”?
  • The Beatles?
  • Two amazing football (soccer!) clubs and Aintree, the home of The Grand National?
  • The unique “Scouse” dialect?
  • Albert Dock and Tate Liverpool....the rebirth of Liverpool and all that the modern city now has to offer?
  • Host city for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2023?

We believe Liverpool has to be on every traveller’s list of places to visit when in England. Whether you are on your first trip or your fifteenth, a day or two in Liverpool should be on the agenda.

Liverpool has so much to offer that, as the Beatles told us in the 1960s, you need “Eight days a week” to see it all!

Here are just a few of your must dos while in Liverpool.

  • Albert Dock for its superbly preserved warehouses now converted into.....the Tate gallery, the Merseyside Maritime Museum, the International Slavery Museum and the Beatles Story.
  • Pier Head for the Royal Liver Building, the Cunard Building and the Port of Liverpool Building......not forgetting the ferry across the Mersey, of course!
  • The Cavern Quarter so that you can relive some of the magic of 1960s Beatlemania.
  • A Beatles tour taking in the Casbah, Stanley Street and Eleanor Rigby, the homes of John, Paul, George and Ringo in the suburbs.
  • The two magnificent cathedrals, completely different in architectural style, but landmarks equally for the Catholic and Anglican church communities.
  • A behind the scenes tour of one (or both) of Liverpool’s football clubs.

One of our top tips for your visit to Liverpool, and to get a sense of the rich music tradition that Liverpool has given the world, would be to embark on a magical tour with Daytrippers Beatles Taxi Tours to take in the sights and sounds of The Beatles, a must for all Beatles fans to find out where the whole story began.

Liverpool’s musical tradition goes back much further than the 1960s and, to many people, Liverpool is the spiritual home of the sea shanty, sung aboard the many merchant ships that sailed from Liverpool to the Americas, Africa and Europe. There are regular sea shanty events in the city, where you can join locals in singing some of the favourite songs of the sailors.

Whether you are at the Albert Dock or on a Beatles tour, you will want to spend time just chatting to local people. You might not immediately understand some of their sayings... and the unique Scouse accent can seem impenetrable at first! But the friendliness of Liverpudlians, their sense of humour and the warmth of the welcome will stay with you all your life.
