The discovery of a rare and valuable First Folio edition of Shakespeare’s plays on the Isle of Bute in Scotland will make our tour to Mount Stuart House all the more exciting this year!

The copy of the First Folio was found in the collection of Mount Stuart House, where it was likely to have been acquired by the third Marquess of Bute in the late 19th Century. The book brings together 36 of Shakespeare’s plays and there are thought to only be about 230 copies surviving anywhere in the world.

Mount Stuart House is a magnificent Victorian Gothic mansion on the Isle of Bute on the west coast of Scotland and its spectacular gardens are recognised as some of the finest in Europe.

2016 marks the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death and events will be taking place across the country to celebrate his life and work.
