One of the highlights of the movie year, the Cannes Film Festival showcases the best new movies and talent that the industry has to offer. Considered to be the most prestigious film festival in the world, this year’s event takes place from 11th to 22nd May.

Although the Festival itself is by invitation only, there are a number of public events in the town during the Festival which allow visitors to enjoy the movies, and the atmosphere in the resort is second to none, as locals and tourists rub shoulders with celebrities and movie professionals.

The festival kicks off on Wednesday 11th May with the Opening Ceremony, followed by a screening of Woody Allen’s new film Café Society, and concludes with the awarding the prestigious Palme d’Or award for best film on Sunday 22nd May.

The Palme d’Or is the highest prize awarded at the Festival and is decided by a jury made up of leading lights from the movie industry. This year’s jury includes the likes of actress Kirsten Dunst, actor Donald Sutherland, actress and singer Vanessa Paradis and director George Miller, the President of the Jury.

“The Cannes Festival is a must for movie buffs and celebrity watchers alike,” says Janet Redler, Chief Executive of Janet Redler Travel & Tourism. “The atmosphere in the town during the Festival is scintillating and visitors can mingle with the stars while enjoying open air screenings of the films at the ‘Cinema on the Beach’.”
